Those doors open a world to me,
that I had never known.
A world free from criticism,
judgement and assault
.
Those doors opened possibilities,
I had never seen.
Choices I did not realize,
that I could make.
Those doors opened strength,
I never knew I had
A fierceness I hid from myself,
Held captive for too long.
Those doors opened freedom,
from a jail cell in my mind.
One I allowed myself to be kept in
without seeing the bars around me.
Those doors allowed me to speak,
to say and ask things
My darkest thoughts I had kept,
fearing them being brought to light.
Those doors may appear to you,
to be only glass and steel
And open like any other door,
but for me – they open so much more.
